Market Data & Charts

dotQuant streams price data through built-in, platform-managed integrations. You do not need a third-party data account or API key.

Charts are session-aware: the 1D view knows each exchange's trading hours and timezone; longer windows (5D to MAX) use daily bars.

Freshness: historical and end-of-day data is refreshed automatically, with a top-up shortly after each exchange's close. Intraday freshness varies by exchange — when a chart's newest data belongs to the previous session, the price row shows a PREV chip so stale data is never silently presented as current.

Live session bars: with the dotQuant Desktop App connected, today's bars can stream from your own broker entitlement — see Broker Live Bars (IBKR).

Symbol format: equities are TICKER + exchange (e.g. MSFT on NASDAQ); non-US equities use the local exchange (e.g. STMPA on EURONEXT).

The feeds list groups your followed symbols into watchlist panels.

- Create, rename, and delete panels; move symbols between them.
- Symbols not assigned to a panel live in the Default panel — it always exists and can never lose symbols.
- Panels are stored on your account (not in the browser), so they survive reloads and follow you across devices.
- Rows show live prices while the market is open, the company logo, and day change against the previous close.

Every feed collects recent news for its symbol. Headlines carry a sentiment score computed at ingestion — positive, negative, or neutral — so you can scan the tone of coverage at a glance. News refreshes automatically while you follow the symbol.

With the dotQuant Desktop App running and connected to your IBKR TWS or Gateway, the 1D chart streams today's 1-minute bars directly from your own market-data subscriptions.

Chips on the chart:
- LIVE · IBKR — bars are streaming in real time
- DELAYED · IBKR — your account has no live subscription for this exchange (~15 min delay)
- SNAPSHOT · IBKR — today's bars were fetched once; live streaming is unavailable

Privacy and licensing: broker-sourced bars are displayed on your chart only — they are never stored by dotQuant and never shared with other users.

If data is unavailable, the notice on the chart maps the TWS error. Streaming an exchange requires a market-data subscription on your own IBKR account — see IBKR Market Data Subscriptions below for exactly which one per region.

dotQuant does not resell market data. Live session bars come from your own IBKR entitlement, so the exchange you want to watch live must be subscribed on your IBKR account.

The rule: entitlement is per exchange, not per symbol, and you need the exchange where the symbol has its primary listing. Level 1 (L1) is enough — dotQuant only needs top-of-book bars, never market depth. Choose Non-Professional (NP) pricing if you qualify; it is a fraction of the professional rate.

United States — NASDAQ, NYSE, AMEX
Two products, and the order matters:
1. US Securities Snapshot and Futures Value Bundle (NP, L1) — the prerequisite. On its own it is snapshot data and does not stream over the API, so the chart will not go live with only this.
2. US Equity and Options Add-On Streaming Bundle (NP) — approximately USD 4.50/month. This is the one that streams, covering NYSE (CTA/Network A), AMEX (Network B) and NASDAQ (UTP/Network C).

The free US Real-Time Non Consolidated Streaming Quotes is not a substitute — it is the non-consolidated feed and does not carry API streaming.

Euronext — Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Lisbon, Dublin
- Euronext Bundle (NP, L1) — approximately EUR 3.00/month. Verified: with this alone, a Paris listing streams 1-minute bars for the entire session.

The waived (free) Alternative European Equities (L1) is not a substitute: it covers Aquis, Cboe Europe, Gettex, Tradegate and Turquoise — the alternative venues only, never a primary listing.

London — a stock entitlement does not cover ETFs
IBKR entitles LSE ETFs (venue LSEETF) separately from LSE stocks: with only the equities product, an ETF like VUAG or VALL backfills history but refuses to stream (420 with no market data permissions for LSEETF). Subscribe the LSE ETF data product as well — in Client Portal both are listed under the United Kingdom tab.

Other exchanges
Every other exchange dotQuant can stream needs its own Level 1 bundle, named after its market operator in Client Portal — Xetra and Frankfurt (Germany), London Stock Exchange, Bolsa de Madrid, Hong Kong, Tokyo, National Stock Exchange of India, and Korea. If you are unsure which product covers a symbol, IBKR's Market Data Assistant (in Client Portal) tells you exactly which subscription that symbol requires.

Where live bars can appear: NASDAQ, NYSE, AMEX, LSE, Xetra, Frankfurt, Euronext, BME (Madrid), HKEX, JPX (Tokyo), NSE (India) and KRX (Korea). Other venues — and crypto, FX and indices — always use dotQuant's own platform data.

How to subscribe: IBKR Client Portal → Settings → Market Data Subscriptions → Configure, pick the region tab, select the bundle, and self-certify as Non-Professional if eligible. Restart TWS or IB Gateway afterwards — a new entitlement only takes effect in a fresh session.

Reading a refusal:
- 420 / 10089 — no API streaming permission for that venue. The message lists the whole SMART venue set, not the one that is missing, so don't try to decode it: subscribe the symbol's primary exchange and the entire message clears.
- 162 — on a paper account, this usually means the data-owning live account is logged into Client Portal on the web, which blocks shared data. Log out there and retry.

Without any subscription nothing breaks: charts, analysis, strategies and backtests all keep working on dotQuant's platform data. A subscription only affects whether today's session streams live, and the chip plus the notice on the chart always tell you which source you are looking at.
