Getting Started
What dotQuant is, the quick start from first search to a live strategy and a portfolio, and the core concepts every screen uses.
Introduction
dotQuant is an agent-operable trading platform for active traders, long-term investors, and their AI assistants.
dotQuant combines live market data, AI-driven analysis, strategy automation, long-term portfolios, and broker execution in one place — and every one of those capabilities is operable by an AI agent as well as by you.
Explore any market: search symbols across global exchanges and get session-aware charts, news, and market indices — no account required.
Understand what you own: a panel of AI analysts scores the fundamentals behind every symbol you follow, alongside an objective Key Metrics table. New to the measures themselves? The stock research guides explain valuation, profitability, financial health, investing styles and backtesting in plain English.
Turn ideas into strategies: describe a trading idea in plain English; dotQuant compiles it into a precise strategy spec, backtests it on real market data with honest fills and costs — and can then run it live, evaluating every closing bar and recording buy/sell signals that you can route to your broker or to webhooks.
Invest for the long term: a portfolio turns target weights and a monthly amount into scheduled, reviewed contribution proposals. You approve every order batch; your broker remains the account of record.

Quick Start Guide
From first search to a live strategy and a managed portfolio.
1. Search a symbol: use the search bar on the home page — equities across global exchanges, by ticker or company name.
2. Follow it: selecting a symbol opens its feed — a live chart, company info, and news. Followed symbols appear on your watchlist.
3. Read the analysis: open the symbol view to see the AI analyst panel and the Key Metrics table, refreshed automatically as new fundamentals arrive.
4. Write a strategy: open the Strategies tab on the symbol view, describe your entry and exit rules in plain English, and press Review. dotQuant compiles them into a strategy spec.
5. Backtest it: run the reviewed strategy against real historical data — entries and exits are drawn directly on the chart.
6. Run it live: press the play button in the chart legend. The platform evaluates the strategy on every closing bar and records its buy/sell signals — signal-only until you route them.
7. Connect your broker: open Broker connections and configure Interactive Brokers (via the dotQuant Desktop App) or Trading 212 (cloud-to-cloud, API key).
8. Trade — or route: use the Buy/Sell buttons on the symbol view for manual orders, or open Signal Routing to let a strategy's signals flow to your broker or a webhook, behind an explicit enable.
9. Create a portfolio: on the Portfolios tab, pick holdings and target weights, set a monthly amount, and enable it. Each review produces a proposal you approve before any order is sent.

Core Concepts
The building blocks of dotQuant.
Feeds: a feed is a followed symbol — its price history, live bars, news, and analysis. Following a symbol subscribes its feed; dotQuant sources the data for you. A feed is named
Watchlist panels: group your feeds into named panels. Panels are stored on your account and follow you across devices.
AI Analysts: named analyst personas that each score a symbol's fundamentals from a different investing style, with per-category scores and written reasoning.
Key Metrics: an objective, persona-independent table of derived fundamentals — valuation, margins, returns, growth, and balance-sheet health, with year-over-year change.
Strategies: trading rules written in plain English. A strategy compiles into a machine-readable spec you can inspect, copy, backtest — and run live on the feed's closing bars.
Signal routes: where a live strategy's signals go. Each route targets one destination — a broker connection (with an entry quantity) or a webhook — and carries signals only after you explicitly enable it.
Portfolios: the long-term lane. A portfolio stores your intent — holdings, target weights, a monthly contribution cap — and turns it into reviewed, approval-gated contribution proposals planned from fresh broker facts. Your broker remains the book of record.
Broker connections: your linked broker accounts. dotQuant uses them for order placement and, with the Desktop App, for live intraday bars from your own market-data entitlement. Every operation names exactly one connection — a live account is never silently substituted for a paper one, or vice versa.
Commands: dotQuant is event-sourced. Write operations are commands (CloudEvents) dispatched to a queue; confirmations arrive as live updates rather than synchronous responses. Commands that move real money carry a high-impact annotation and sit behind explicit confirmation. The UI, the BaaS API, and MCP agents all use the same command path.
Workflows: published, machine-readable recipes for the platform's multi-step processes — following a symbol, researching it, building and running a strategy, designing and managing a portfolio, placing an order. Agents fetch them from the BEST surface instead of guessing the steps.
